30 years ago your choice of a portable data device was Floppy Drives and CDs. Let’s compare CDs to a Flash Drive:

Media: 25 CD-Rs vs 1 Flash Drive USB 3.1
Weight: 1lb vs 1oz (or less)
Capacity: about 16GB vs 16 GB
Transfer Speed of 16GB: 3-4 Hours vs 3-4 minutes
Date became popular: 1987 vs 2017

* Transfer Speed doesn’t include human time to switch CDs!

Also note that in 1991 the largest hard drive commonly available was 1 GB (1,000 MB). We just didn’t have the data storage needs then as we do now!

Zip Drives didn’t come out until 1994
